I wasn't ready to move on today so I thought that I'd share this additional video with you.
If you never saw Gil Scott Heron perform, this is a pretty great example of his incredible ability to weave prescient political and social commentary into his uniquely poetic and carefully scripted flow of words and musical ideas and "tell it like it is".
Sadly, we can almost change the names and fill in a few blanks and easily recognize the contemporary parallels of everything GSH is talking about here.
"We don't need no Re-Ron, yeah."

William,
When I was 10 I saw him on SNL Signing Johannesburg and I fell in love. I wanted to know everything about the songs subject and was mesmerized by his effervescence. In my twenties I saw him at the blue note and was blessed to sit right in front of the stage and couldn't contain my self during his performance of Superman, he put the microphone by my mouth and for a mere moment I was part of his Vocetry. I guess I too don't want to move on from his influence over me. I often sing the words of my poetry and know it's more than OK to combine the unexpected and deliver it with grit.
