I can't imagine the sense of loss this is for countless people. What kind of person does it take to be able to edict this horrible assault on history with complete disregard for humankind? And for what? Modernization? As if that's better. I too, am outraged!

Patricia Garn

This story is enough to make one want to fall to their knees and cry. Truly a shameful act inflicted under the guise of progress and modernization.

Janet M

What a sad story and an outrage. It is tempting to draw a parallel with other stories of government interference (which are ubiquitous), but each case is unique and tragic for those involved. Thanks for drawing some attention to this situation.

Elsita :)

This is really sad news Billy.
And it is even more sad that nobody with the power to do it will stop what's going on.
This is the prefect example of how human race destroys important things while the rest of the world ignores what's happening.

I am caught in a conflict after seeing the images and reading about what is taking place in this area of China.

I am confused about cultural identity and peaceful coexistence between people that are different from each other.

I am from Canada where we have been fortunate to exist without this kind of turmoil. The French Canadian part of our culture was for a while and still may be disatisfied that they were losing their identity.

In Canada the first language is English, the second French and the third Chinese recently having displaced the Italian language.

There are situations in life that not only affect the local people but also other peoples of the world, and the silk road is part of an international culture that is shared by the east and the west, but ultimately belongs to the jurisdiction of the east.

China has a 5,000 year history which only the Chinese truly can understand and if the silk road is deemed to be part of that history, and if it is not then the rest of the world must reluctantantly accept what the Chinese ultimately decide what is to be done in their country.
